Preparing for Hurricanes and Tropical Storms

We all know that hurricane season starts on June 1st, but here in South Louisiana, we also know that we have a little bit of time before the bigger storms start rolling in. As always, August has snuck up on us and it’s time to get the kids back to school and out of their Summer routine. It’s also time to make sure that you are as prepared as possible for any storms that head our way. Let’s break out the FEMA hurricane checklist and see where you are.
Here are some things that you should have ready or be working on:
1. Create an evacuation plan.
2. Assemble disaster supplies (food, water, medical supplies).
3. Get an insurance check-up and know who to contact.
4. Prepare your home (clean yard, check shutters, secure valuables.
5. If a storm is approaching, keep your gas tank as full as possible. You never know when a storm could turn.
You can’t stop a storm, but you can be as prepared as possible. If you need any help after a storm, SERVPRO of Metairie is here to help. Call us at (504) 496-0193.
